Link previews

A new feature has suddenly appeared on Qulog: when you ‘hover’ over a link, a picture of the site linked to is shown, before you even click it. This is a service called Snap (from snap shots, I gather) and WordPress is testing it out on 10 % of its blogs. You can read about it on their post Snap to it!.

I’m not sure how I like it yet, those popping pictures can be annoying when you don’t intend to click the links anyway and are just reading. On the other hand it may be useful sometimes to see the site before you click and then decide you do or don’t want to see it. Usually I check Firefox’s status bar before clicking a link to see where it’s gonna send me (’that’s a link to another post on the same blog, but this one is of a news article’), and that wouldn’t be necessary now.

Thoughts?

Oh, I browse with javascript turned off, so I didn’t see anything at first. With it turned on? Well it’s not too annoying.
