What revolves around the earth?

… is the next question in this tv quiz. To make it a bit easier, the following choices are given:

  1. The Moon
  2. The Sun
  3. Mars
  4. Venus

I guess sitting there in a tv studio with cameras everywhere and all these studio lamps, with a presenter who’s much more comfortable than you are and who has all the answers on little cards, and knowing that you need to answer this right to win 3000 euros and continue to the next round will make anyone nervous. Maybe that’s why the audience can be asked for help. But do they really help you?

It’s an old one, but still funny. Off course they both revolve around their common center of gravity which is inside the earth. /me passed his classical mechanics course. :-P

  2. Florine says:

Yes, it’s a bit old, maybe I should have mentioned that. (Six months on the internet is about a decade in normal time, right?)

  3. Wilfred says:

A decade sounds about right. Back on topic, I don’t know what to think about that clip, sometimes I think it’s funny and sometimes that it’s really sad. Do you think that the public deliberately voted wrong, or that they don’t know it either?

  4. Florine says:

Hmm, I don’t think more than half of the public deliberately answered wrong to confuse him… though some might have.
Maybe they are even (before the show starts) encouraged to do so? Or perhaps the results were tampered with by the people behind the scenes. I really don’t know but I’m afraid it wouldn’t actually surprise me…

So the question is: are tv makers insincere, or is the studio public ignorant? It’s sad any way.
