An oldie but definitely a goodie: middle school science teacher and blogger Ms Frizzle wrote a song about hydrogen, to the tune of “Jingle Bells”.
Hydrogen, hydrogen
Atomic number one
Oh what a bang it is to be the fuel inside the sun
Hydrogen, hydrogen
atomic number one
Oh what a bang it is to be the fuel inside the sun
In its nucleus
is a proton by itself
an electron spins nearby
in its closest shell.
Hydrogen’s a gas,
very low in weight.
What fun it is to read and sing an atom song tonight!
Hydrogen, hydrogen
Atomic number one
Oh what a bang it is to be the fuel inside the sun
Hydrogen, hydrogen
atomic number one
Oh what a bang it is to be the fuel inside the sun
Two hydrogens can bond
with a single oxygen
to make a molecule
called “water” by its friends.
This non-metal is burned
making stars so bright.
What fun it is to read and sing an atom song tonight!

Some things from the ScienceBlogs that caught my eye:
Discovering Biology in a digital world about the invisibility of women in science and technology (“Are you a long-haired, pony-tail-wearing, software geek?” I was stunned. How did they know? When did I become a target demographic?)
And Thus Spake Zuska about the same ‘incident’. (Let’s vote on the best science blogs, and start with only blogs by men.) And then Adventures in Ethics and Science with a related post.
Cognitive Daily on how children learn cultural values, and Good Math, Bad Math on Egyptian fractions.
Maybe I’ll have another crochet post up after the weekend. It’s about time, isn’t it? So stay tuned…

Because I’ve got no inspiration for poetry today, I bring you this picture of a cute kitten experiencing static electricity.

Well, no, not me. But lots of people do: they have their subject of study tattooed on their back. Take a look at this collection: Branded with science.

It started with just this one, but then commenters sent in their own pictures, and the collection is still growing: DNA, a neuron, even the complete periodic table of elements.
More into maths than science? Check out Virtual Courtney’s golden ratio-tattoo (via de wiskundemeisjes).

A neutron walks into a bar. He says to the bartender: How much for a beer?
Bartender: For you? No charge.
